AMES, Iowa -- Haryvey Lewellen lead the way with the sole world record of the day but Masters athletes set four more American records on day three of the USATF Masters Outdoor Championships at Bill and Karen Bergan Track on the campus of Iowa State University. The world’s best athletes ranging from 30 to 96 years of age are among the more than 900 athletes competing at ISU’s Cyclone Sports Complex this week.

Harvey Lewellen (Oregon Track Club), the American record holder in the 80-84 and 85-89 Hammer Throw, set a new world record (pending) in the 90-94 hammer throw with a heave of 25.82m/84-8. Four of his throws were beyond the previous world record mark of 25.28m. Lewellen also won the weight throw with a toss of 9.67m/31-8.

Coming off a stellar indoor season in which he won two medals (one gold) at the World Indoor Championships in Poland, Antonio Palacios (Unattached) set a new American record in the 50-54 age group long jump with a leap of 6.49m/21-3.5.

Neringa Jakstiene (Unattached) did it again winning her fourth and fifth national titles of these championships. Jakstiene set her second American record this week a 10.02m/32-10.5 leap in the 55-59 triple jump. She also won the national title in the high jump, clearing 1.40m/4-7. Jakstiene has also national title in the pentathlon, 80m hurdles and long jump.

Florence Meiler (Sprinticity) recorded her third American record of the meet with a leap of 5.20m/17-0.75 in the 85-89 triple jump. She also won the 100m with a time of 22.63, just missing the American record of 22.30. Meiler set a world record in the 80m hurdles and American records in the 2000m steeplechase and discus.

2018 USATF outdoor champion in the 800m, 1500m and 5000m, Sabra Harvey (Houston Striders) added the 800m title to her resume with a new American record 2:55.33, shaving nearly 8 seconds off the previous record.

Race walk Olympian Michelle Rohl (Unattached) dominated the 50-54 800m clocking 2:27.65, more than 4 seconds ahead of the second place finisher in 2:31.03.
